Hi.

Welcome to the blog! This is my space to share my journey in living my best life and leaving my mark on this beautiful planet!

a city hippy wedding | save the dates

Save the Dates are officially out! Which means Morgan and I are actually getting married, and I should probably move forward (out of the ideas everywhere phase) with planning. We’re getting married in downtown Portland, OR in the dead of winter (average weather is 45 degrees). I’ve always known I would get married in the winter. Firstly, because my favorite color combo’s are rich, deep & dark (gaudy!). Secondly, because my grandmother gave me a vintage white fur muff from her wedding when my grandfather passed away. Deal, sealed.

One of the first questions I get when I’m asked about my wedding is what the “theme” or “style” is. Honestly, I write off the question every time. I really don’t want to answer it. This makes dress shopping hard on my bridesmaids, but it’s the truth. I have been quick to make decisions through this process because the real answer to the question is Morgan and Me. We’re the theme. Which I hope is obvious when looking at our Save the Dates!

We loved our engagement photos so much we felt we had to use them in the design. But, I didn’t feel comfortable mailing our closest friends and family a close up of my mug. The concept was generally the same from beginning to end, with a few tweaks here and there. I chose to run a digital print of the photo, and letterpress everything in black on the invite (copy and florals) to add some dimension. I’m thrilled with how these turned out, and pleasantly surprised with how well I handled the pressure of designing for myself (can be one of the hardest things to do as a designer). We’ll see if I’m singing the same tune after the invitation design…
